[CardioTrainer Users] Re: Volume of voice prompts has become very low

Yes, me.

[CardioTrainer Users] Re: Audio Prompts and Bluetooth Music

I have seen same problem, Droid2 running 2.2 with Moto S10-HD
headphones.
It's not on silent and I have the CardioTrainer notification volume
set to 100.
To be honest, sometimes I DO get the notifications through my
headphones; these times their level is so low it's hard to hear. I
had a similar problem with RunKeeper, too; it seems something special
has to be done to ensure the voice prompts will go to the BT
headphones instead of the speaker.

Re: Improving Intelligence with Diet

Still we suggest to take time to
understand the biochemistry of CR and how cells adapt to fewer
calories, less amino acids, etc. They should also study what happens
when excess ATP is added to a cell. That may be very beneficial for
judging whether or not to take a particular supplement, for example.
It is one thing to overeat. It is adding fuel to the fire to
exacerbate that  biochemistry with a supplement that might provide
increased energy and perhaps a higher n-back score for a little while,
and over the years might destroy neurons and a whole lot of other
things.

Interesting. CR increases alertness and cathecolamine levels I think. is this teh main way it boosts cognition?

Thanks Paul for your input here. very interesting stuff.

I don't really see how the above study supports taking up a CR diet

Re: Could too many nootrpics targeting same area actually have reverse effect?

Thanks Bofu, interesting and informative!

personally I keep stimulants for certain occasions. I think it's possible that most cognitive boosters rely on boosting alertness (cathecolamines, etc.). and boosting alertness is not the healthiest thing on the long term--and it also hinders one important aspect of intelligence: learning (and sleeping, also). it's my really approximate rule of thumb for now.

I try to rely on other techniques to perform, like mnemonics and willful concentration during short time windows. time management, organization and concentrating on what matters can do just as much as being on stims. but it's true stims/brain boosters can do wonders in some cases, like tests, and being fast and on task.

I heard ginkgo can deplete glutathione on the long term. I think all these should be used sparingly in wait for more info. interesting topic.

btw I saw the NZT movie last weekend I usually dont like action movies because they startle me and I have a low tolerance to stress, but it was fun to watch. I do think the underlying idea/inspiration behind that movie is taking ritalin/stims/brain boosters, and the general feeling that it's not good for you on the long term. probably the guy who wrote that movie reads this forum. say hi if you want!

semi-unrealted: I had a concussion recently and it was afterall an interesting experience event though I was freaked out my working memoery would stay low. it didn't, but it was interesting to feel the difference. every little task was painful, I had to use my mental resources sparingly and willfully concentrate on what mattered for me, what I had to get done during the day. everyone experiences this in the morning when you didn't sleep nearly enough. when you are on stims cleaning and organizing is fast and any task is easy, not a burden. it's crazy to see the difference.

Bacopa, Ashwagandha, and Rhodiola are all anti-anxiety supplements and
if you aren't anxious by nature they won't benefit you during the day,
but can make for more refreshing sleep if taken at night.  Choline is
probably the one supplement there that is giving you the boost.  DMAE
is not needed when taking the choline.  Don't take either of those at
night - they disrupt sleep patterns.  Lion's Mane gives brain fog to
most people during the day so it's usually used at night, and it will
take about 6 weeks to see results from that.  I don't know about
Curcumin.

If you have too much choline, you'll feel tense in the shoulders and
neck and have a dull headache.  None of them should interfere with
each other.  It's odd to see you using choline without anything that
uses choline up, like piracetam or huperzine.

One other thing is that most feel refreshed from Rhodiola in the first
few months and either doesn't work or turns into a sleepy feeling
after that.

You should never jump onto a regimen not knowing how each one affects
you separately.  Just because it works for some, or even most people,
doesn't mean you'll react to any of them the same way.

Brain Entrainment

A form of brain entrainment was discussed on here in some posts a
while ago and it made me curious: Has any form of brain entrainment
(i.e beta, alpha, theta waves and so on) been found to be effective in
increasing IQ, mental ability, etc...?

[ Other - Home & Garden ] Open Question : Is this a smart idea?

Posted: 19 May 2011 03:23 PM PDT

I was thinking about how in some places such as New York City, Stamford Connecticut, and many places in California, the monthly rent is about $2,200-$3,000 a month; Which is the same amount of money that could be used to pay the house every month. I was thinking, what if I bought homes in foreclosure and then rented them to people so that the rent they would pay would match or be close enough to the amount I'd have to pay every month for the house. If I did this with around 10 different homes, and waited the amounts of years it would take to pay them off (with the money I'd get from rent), I would practically have only payed a good small percentage of the house and be able to sell it (it, as in selling the house) for an extremely higher amount then "I" myself had to pay. Is this idea good?

[ Singles & Dating ] Open Question : Am i important to him? does he love me? is he whipped?

Posted: 19 May 2011 03:22 PM PDT

so, this guy i've been on and off with finally got his life straight. stopped drugs and has reall changed. We've been hanging out everynight now, for aboyut 3 weeks. I offered we should just be best friends, so we wont mess things up. but we still kiss, and have sex. He doesn't text me very often, but sometimes he does. Last night he told me he was whipped. loll. Yesterday when he came and got me, a girl was sitting up front. and i had to sit in the back. the first thing he said was "this is my sister, jessica" i knew it was true because i'd seen her in pictures. Later on that night, when we dropped Jessica off at her apartment/dorm (she lives in a out patient rehab facility). time passed, and it was now me, his friend david, and him. Josh was joking around and said "we should just drive into the lake" we laughed and i said yes. He told me if we did do that he would grab me and hold me. i said "why?" he said, well if i was gonna die i'd wanna die with you. i smiled. David always jokes about how the reason Josh gets into crashes is because he pays attention to me and not the road. Another thing is Josh often talks about the old times, all the things we'd done in the past together. We already have plans for the summer, he always tries to make sure i'm happy, and if i get mad at him, he'll get upset/mad too. I obviously love this boy VERY much. and i think he loves me too, he's just not good at showing it. Just asking for your opinion :D thanks xxxx

[ Physics ] Open Question : Hi need help in explaining Photoelectic effect and compton effect, please?

Posted: 19 May 2011 03:22 PM PDT

a) Describe the photoelectric effect experiment and sketch the apparatus. What four observations led Einstein to conclude that the energy in light is contained in particle-like quanta called photons? Write down an expression for the maximum kinetic energy against the frequency of the light and sketch a graph of this relationship. Contrast these observations with the expectations of classical theory. Finally, explain why no electrons are emitted if the light has a frequency that is too low - no matter how intense the light. b) If a piece of metal has a work function of 3.00 eV, what will the maximum kinetic energy of electrons emitted be when the metal is irradiated by light of wavelength 321 nm? Calculate the cut off frequency below which no electrons will be emitted. c) The particle-like nature of light also leads to the Compton effect, which considers the scattering of electrons by photons. Explain: i) how it is that photons can have momentum, deriving an expression for that momentum, ii) why the change in wavelength of photon after the scatter event is at odds with classical theory, and iii) write down the conservation of energy equation for the scattering event.

Ok, so, I made this poem for my english/reading class. Were suppose to make a poem with 4 stanzas. And we need to include a simile/metaphor/idiom 2 times in the poem. so here it is: Rough Draft - Losing a Dog I have a dog named Charlie He is a Border Collie He loves to play Which makes my day He's been my best friend for years But the sad news burst me into tears (idiom) He made me happy through the past But now his love will never last He passed away last year I trembled in fear His eyes are as dark as ebony (simile) his life ended dreadfully It has been hard for me to miss him so dearly I'll always remember the fun we had Though it makes me really sad _______________________________________ Do I have any grammar mistakes? what should I add more? What lines do I need to add to make it more dramatic? or stronger? Do I need to change some of my lines? P.S - please comment about the poem. Thanks :)

While I did not always agree with his policy, I never doubted that he had Americas well-being as his number one priority. In listening to Obama, I do not feel the same. I feel he is out to prove himself to America, when he should really be trying to prove America to the world right now. Thoughts?

It's a female singer, sounds like its from mid-late 80's, very early 90's. Catchy medium tempo dance beat. I heard it at work, could barely make out the lyircs, only the beat. The only ones I could kind of hear from the chorus went like: I want to...(Sounded like one of these): "?turn you on?" ?pull you on? ?do you now? ?Pull you along? (Then two high notes): DA DA Then right after is says(I think): "I want to be the one, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh. Then it repeats the whole thing again. The ooh ooh's are for sure, and exactly that many. PLEASE help.

We invade, rape, kill, immmigrate illegally which i don't think is possible. and then prohibit other people from doing it and then on the other hand celebrate christopher columbus for doing it.... only he raped and killed the people who he stole land from. The people who are illegally migrating over here aren't doing anything but wanting a better life. After all Americans Stole Texas from Mexico. And plz don't say it's illegal because of security and you don't want terrorists to come over here because the only terrorists that came over here, came over here LEGALLY. Wait let me correct myself, America doesn't call EVERYONE who migrates over here without the proper papers'' Illegal just people who aren't white. Russians, britians, Dutch and Canadians come over here with no problem. just look at Marai Sharapova. Need I say more? I just don't get it.
