| [ Injuries ] Open Question : Hot water scald scar? Posted: 10 Aug 2011 09:56 PM PDT A month ago I splashed boiling water on myself while cooking. It landed on my stomach and burnt me through my shirt. I put a cold wet compress on it immediately until the pain went away, and from that point on it didn't sting at all- even in hot showers. The area turned red and was slightly raised for awhile. After about 2 weeks it started healing much quicker and now the area is a dark tannish brown... and it's been that way ever since. Is this a scar or is it just a part of the healing process? How can I tell? What can I put on it to help?  |

I've had this feeling before... nausea in the morning... no inclination to eat... eating usually makes it go away BUT twice recently I have woken up feeling nausea, consumed something (today it was a breakfast shake), and just thrown it all up. Today was especially awful. I got that horrible "whoomp" feeling where it feels like your head is being squeezed. I have really unpredictable periods anyway, hence me thinking it was pregnancy. If anything, recently I have lost (a small amount) of weight. I've been eating healthier too. Is this all in my head? My theory was that society is convincing us to be thin and eat less so I am essentially making myself ill. I am 22, female, 65 (approx) kilograms, 168cm tall... if that helps. I have also been having problems with my skin. I am on medication for it (it's not that bad, just persistent) but the skin on my chest has gotten some blemishes on it. I went to the doctor (I thought it was a reaction to medication) but he said it was something else. On the diagnosis sheet he showed me, however, as well as saying 'heat' could cause it, it also said 'pregnancy' could cause it. But I am not pregnant so... wtf?! Oh, and I also most definitely DO NOT want to be pregnant.  |

I moved to a new school last year and now there are way better drummers than me. My band director had me as an alternate for bass drum during games and a snare drummer for concerts. Since this year is my last one, she's finally giving me a chance to play snare. In our band, we have 3 kevlars that are reserved for the best players and I assumed that I was going to get one. I fudged up the sightreading part of the audition and my spot ended up going to a 6th grader. She said that I still have a chance if I prove my worth during band camp. I need some tips on sight reading, any sites that I can go to? I also need some tips on marching, because I end up walking like a penguin, especially since the harness hurts my back and chest. I would ask my boyfriend who's "section leader" but he's too busy to help. BONUS: Any help on how to attach my new music lyre and folder? I don't want to hurt my chances anymore by asking my director to help.  |

I have two cats, Hecate and Nyx. Hecate is about 2 years old. She was abandoned, heavily pregnant, by my old neighbours. Nyx is the only one of her kittens that we kept, she's about 14 months old, and starting to act a bit more like an adult cat. For the record, what I'm about to describe only happens at night after they've been fed. Both our front and back doors are glass, so we can't put cat flaps in. Additionally, I know that statistically, indoor cats live longer, but I refuse to keep my cats locked indoors where they have no form of exercise and can't have space from each other. Oh, and I know cats are nocturnal and want to go out hunting at night, I'm well aware of why she does it. Because it's so light out at night, Hecate has an annoying habit of staying out until 5am if given the opportunity. There are nights that I've sat up waiting for her and not had any sleep because I was so worried about her. Because of this, I've been keeping her inside after her evening meal since around March this year. Nyx always comes back when she's called, but Hecate ignores me until she's had a good prowl, which can last hours. Regardless, accidents happen, like my flatmate leaving a window open in his room and the door open, or someone coming home and her bolting out before they have a chance to stop her. Despite the fact that I've stuck to this routine most nights for about 5 months, she just doesn't seem to get it. As soon as she's finished eating, she'll come into the living room, stand at the back door and wail. When she realises I'm not paying her any attention, she puts her paws on my legs or arms (if I'm at my computer) and very gently claws me. If I continue to ignore her, she prowls around the house whining and, when she finds Nyx, smacks her, hisses at her, growls at her until Nyx runs into the same room as me or I tell Hecate off for it. After she's done that, she'll growl at me, scratch doors, claw carpets, generally anything I usually tell her off for, as long as it gets my attention. When she has my attention, she simply runs to the back door and starts the process again. Some mornings, she doesn't even care about being fed and just sits at the back door wailing until I show her her food bowl. I just don't understand why it's getting worse, despite the fact that I've kept up the same routine for so long, nor why my cat wants to be outside more than she wants to eat. Every other time of day, she's adorable with Nyx. They play in the garden, they clean each other and occasionally sleep curled up together. But every night, for about 3 hours, Hecate just bullies Nyx (and me) to get my attention. I can't even shut her out of the living room with Nyx inside, because both of my cats have learned to open all our doors. How can I get her to stop this behaviour, or what should I do about it? Just stick with the routine until she stops? Try something else? I don't want to punish her directly, because it's taken me almost a year to gain her trust fully. She still runs away if anyone uses any kind of spray (i.e. body spray, air fresheners), which makes me think something happened with my old neighbours. I don't want her to have any similar fears as a result of being punished (i.e. spraying with water or whatever), and in my experience, cats don't respond well to that kind of thing anyway. Advice?  |

Issues ranging from itching, thin yellow drainage, bleeding, pressure, pain from ear clear down in my neck and jaw that makes it hard to chew or even open my mouth. It has not all happened at once usually just one symptom at a time in one ear at a time. However about 3 days ago I started with the itching and gross drainage in one ear and it progressed to both ears with pressure, drainage clear, yellow and bloody, bad pain that starts in my ear and radiates from my ear to my jaw down my neck and makes it difficult and painful to chew, open my mouth turn my neck or lay on the side of my head. I am not sure what it is if it is just a simple ear infection of if it is something for serious. I am really having problems hearing and taking tylenol and ib profen around the clock just simply to get through a little of the pain. Any experiences, remedies, and suggestions will be greatly appreciated! thank you.  |

Posted: 10 Aug 2011 09:55 PM PDT It sounds like everyone only buys a mac because of its slick looks and how it has no viruses. they don't even read into the Ram, gigs or hardware? and compare prices? you can get a mac book pro with 4gigs of ram 750 gigabits of memory for 2000? yet you buy it? you can get a good pc for 1000$ for 6+gigs of ram and 850+ gigabits of memory for half the price? and then add Norton anti virus software and there and its basically virus free? yet i really cant see why people are so in love with macs? i only like there desktops, and the only reason i would ever buy a mac was for video editing, and if i just wanted a computer that is easier to use? i am not dissing macs. i would take a mac looks of PC looks any day. but when you need to buy a computer.. don't ask the community actually look in the mac or PC your self and then decide what fits you best. if your the one that wants what everyone elts has, or if your one for video editing and stuff like I recommend Mac. but if u are actually really into hardware and downloadable's and gaming on the computer Pc over Mac anyday, my personal opinion..  |

Previous to this I was on birth control for 10 years, trying different types, depo, the pill, the implant etc. I was on the pill for the last 4 years out of the 10. I had regular periods then and have only ever missed one period in my life. I am 24, no children, a little overweight but not that much (doctor told me during pre-pregnancy check up it should not affect our chances of conceiving). The last period I had was in May and I havent had one since then. I had some symptoms of period in June but no period and nothing since then. I have done many pregnancy tests all negative and my OPK's are all negative. Does this mean I am not ovulating? I am going to my doctor in a few days but wondering what will happen. What tests will be done? Is it too soon to start me on a medication to make me ovulate? Any input is appreciated!  |

I work with him about 6 hours a day Mon thru Friday so 32 waking hours a week. I also sleep in the same room with him 5 nights a week and for the most part he sleeps through the night. I am given 2 rooms and 2 bathrooms in the house for myself. I get every Saturday and Sunday off completely. They buy all my food and hygiene products as well. I like to take their son for rides so they also pay for my gas and go half on all vehicle repairs and pay a third of my cell phone bill. They also pay for my cable and got me a house phone with my own number that they pay for that too. On top of all that they give me 400 dollars a week cash. Is this fair or should I be getting more. Someone please let me know what the average rate is and if I am getting a fair deal. Since even though over half the time I'm sleeping I'm still with him 78 hours a week. Is this a fair deal or do I deserve more. And keep in mind I'm not a cna or nurse of anykind and have no experience in This kind of work. Thanks everyone!  |

Posted: 10 Aug 2011 09:55 PM PDT I have a 16-year-old brother who lives with our mother (she is a dunk but other than that not an unfit parent) our father lives down south (brother not interesed in moving that far away from his friends). I live only an hour away from my brother. He wants to live with me and I don't mind it at all and okay with it, so I was just wondering if anyone had any insight to something like this and what their outcome was. Thanks!  |
