Posted: 28 Jul 2011 09:42 PM PDT I'm the kinda guy who sees nothing wrong with giving yourself stitches as long as you know how to keep things aseptic. I got sunburned on my shoulders five days ago. The burns are second degree burns about 2 by 4 inches, rectangular. I am dressing them with polysporin under non-stick gauze pads, which is sufficient care for these borderline burns. I was dressing my burns tonight and notice a quarter sized patch nearer the periphery of the burn. It is white and a q-tip head-sized area of that white is slightly (but not totally) numb. I'd tend to just keep on what I'm doing, but a family member is freaking out that I shoud go to the doctor because it's probably third degree. What more than I am already doing (polysporin and reducing airflow) could a doctor do for me at this point? What extra benifit would doctor's care have over my home treatment? I am open, but I'd like to know. Thank you.  |

It was actually an unwilling conversion. I learned so much that I simply couldn't wrap my mind around the idea of any religion. I won't go into that conversation, suffice to say, it happened, this is where I am now. Now I have an all new set of problems. So I have a few questions. I was raised to believe I was born in the end times. My family always told me since I can remember that I wouldn't have to experience death. Jesus would return in glory before I got old enough to die and I would be saved from ever having to die. I was told how creation began, and how it would end. I believed I had a firm grasp on the time-line of existence. Now that I realize I WILL have to die...I'm scared to death of it. The idea of there being nothing, just oblivion, terrifies me. Nonexistence is a horrifying thought. How do you come to terms with that? Is it possible? Secondly...does it upset anyone else knowing that there has been trillions of years of existence and history that we know almost nothing about, and trillions of years in the future you will never experience? Knowing that I will never know how it all ends, my life is less than a blink in the grandness of the universe. It inspires feelings of worthlessness and insignificance in me. It makes me despair and not even want to try to do anything. How do you come to terms with these thoughts? I am 28 now and this is what the psychological abuse of the church has done to me. I'm scared, alone and despairing because they lied to me. It would be so easy to go back and be accepted by family and friends, but I would rather face the truth and emptiness of the universe alone than to cower behind a curtain of lies with the others. So I ask...how do you deal with it? P.S. Please don't reply to me trying to convince me of any religion. This has been a realization over the course of years and I've heard it all. I've argued it all to myself trying to save my own faith. Don't waste your keystrokes. I'm not looking for that kind of help.  |
