The deadline to apply for assistance for 2009 crop losses under the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments (SURE) program is July 29, 2011. The SURE program compensates producers for production and/or quality losses during times of disaster. All producers who experienced crop production and/or crop quality losses, for crop year 2009, must apply for SURE program benefits by the July 29th deadline.
LIVESTOCK INDEMNITY PROGRAM (LIP)
Livestock producers who experience livestock death as a result of an eligible adverse weather event may qualify for assistance through the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) administered by the Farm Service Agency (FSA). LIP provides monetary assistance to eligible livestock owners and livestock contract growers, for eligible livestock deaths in excess of normal mortality that occurred as a direct result of an eligible adverse weather event, including the extreme heat recently occurring in several areas of South Dakota.
For livestock deaths occurring during the 2011 calendar year, livestock producers must file a notice of loss and application for payment with FSA within 30 calendar days of when the loss of livestock is apparent.
