2011 Crop Year Prevented Planting Reporting Deadline Extended in Indiana

Indianapolis, June 14, 2011 – Julia A. Wickard, State Executive Director for USDA's Farm Service Agency in Indiana announced that the 2011 reporting deadline for all prevented planted crops has been extended to coincide with the final crop reporting date. For all crops, the FSA County Committee may accept a CCC-576 for prevented planting as timely if filed by the final crop reporting date for the applicable crop. By filing a prevented planting claim by the final crop reporting date of July 15, 2011, producers will not incur late-filed fees.

An exception exists if the crop that is prevented from being planted is covered by the Non-Insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP). In this instance, producers must file a notice of loss within 15 days of the final crop planting date to be eligible for a NAP claim.

"The tough weather conditions this spring have prevented the timely planting of corn and soybeans. It was imperative that an extension be granted to our Hoosier farmers who experienced weather conditions beyond their control," said Wickard.

"We rely on American farmers to produce the food bounty for the kitchen or consumer table and we need to provide them with the tools to get the crop in the soil."

Failed acreage of crops planted under normal conditions but failed because of weather conditions, will still need to be reported before the disposition (destroying) of the crop occurs.
