USDA Extends Deadline for CRP Emergency Haying and Approves Additional Counties for CRP Emergency Grazing in Kansas
The following counties are approved for emergency haying: Barber, Barton, Butler, Chase, Clark, Comanche, Cowley, Edwards, Elk, Ellsworth Finney, Ford, Grant, Gray, Greenwood, Hamilton, Harper, Harvey, Haskell, Hodgeman, Kearny, Kingman, Kiowa, Lane, Lyon, Marion, McPherson, Meade, Morton, Ness, Pawnee, Pratt, Reno, Rice, Rush, Scott, Sedgwick, Seward, Stafford, Stanton, Stevens, Sumner, Trego, Wichita, Wilson and Woodson Counties.

Manhattan, Kansas – September 1, 2011 –Adrian J. Polansky, State Executive Director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Kansas today announced that, in response to drought conditions, USDA has extended the deadline for emergency haying of Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres for all Kansas counties that are approved for emergency haying..
Emergency haying of land enrolled in CRP has been extended through September 30, 2011. Participants must leave at least 50 percent of each field or contiguous fields unhayed for wildlife. Hay must be removed from the field within 30 days from end of the haying period. Hay cannot be sold. Producers without livestock may rent or lease the haying privileges.The following counties are approved for emergency haying: Barber, Barton, Butler, Chase, Clark, Comanche, Cowley, Edwards, Elk, Ellsworth Finney, Ford, Grant, Gray, Greenwood, Hamilton, Harper, Harvey, Haskell, Hodgeman, Kearny, Kingman, Kiowa, Lane, Lyon, Marion, McPherson, Meade, Morton, Ness, Pawnee, Pratt, Reno, Rice, Rush, Scott, Sedgwick, Seward, Stafford, Stanton, Stevens, Sumner, Trego, Wichita, Wilson and Woodson Counties.

Previously, emergency grazing of CRP in approved counties was extended to October 31, 2011. Participants shall leave at least 25 percent of each field or contiguous CRP fields ungrazed for wildlife, or graze not more than 75 percent of the stocking rate. All livestock must be removed by the end of this grazing period. Producers without livestock may rent or lease the grazing privileges..
“Allen, Anderson, Bourbon, Coffey, and Crawford counties were approved for emergency grazing this week,” announced Polansky. Previously approved counties for emergency grazing included: Barber, Barton, Butler, Chase, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Clark, Comanche, Cowley, Edwards, Elk, Ellis, Ellsworth, Finney, Ford, Gove, Greeley, Greenwood, Graham, Grant, Gray, Hamilton, Harper, Harvey, Haskell, Hodgeman, Kearny, Kingman, Kiowa, Labette, Lane, Logan, Lyon, Marion, McPherson, Meade, Montgomery, Morris, Morton, Neosho, Ness, Pawnee, Pratt, Reno, Rice, Rush, Scott, Sedgwick, Seward, Stafford, Stanton, Stevens, Sumner, Trego, Wallace, Wichita, Wilson and Woodson..
“Eligible producers who are interested in emergency haying or grazing of CRP must request approval before haying or grazing eligible acreage,” said Polansky. “Producers must also obtain a modified conservation plan from the Natural Resources Conservation Service that includes haying or grazing requirements.”.
