FSA Unveils New Acreage Reporting Process

SAINT PAUL, MINN., May 16, 2011 – As Minnesota's producers take to the fields this planting season, Linda Hennen, State Executive Director of USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Minnesota reminds farmers and ranchers of the importance of timely filing a complete and accurate acreage report with the Farm Service Agency.

"The acreage report is a vital component of FSA program participation. All program participants are required to file an acreage report in regard to crops planted in the 2011 crop year by the final acreage reporting date of July 15, 2011," said Hennen.

Hennen indicated the weather this year has contributed to delays in planting and could cause producers to be unable to get all their crops planted. Claims of prevented planting must be filed within 15 calendars days after the crops final planting date.

FSA offices in Minnesota will no longer be mailing appointment cards and maps to producers for acreage reporting purposes. Producers will need to contact their local FSA office as soon as possible to set up an appointment to file their 2011 acreage report. Hard copy maps will be provided to the producer at the time the acreage report is filed. Producers wishing to obtain digital color copies of their respective maps are encouraged to provide their e-mail address to their local FSA office to facilitate the request for digital maps.

Hennen provides, "Many organizations are moving to a paperless business environment to help conserve resources, and as a Federal Agency we must also do our part."

Additional information about the acreage reporting process or programs administered by FSA may be obtained by contacting your local FSA office or on the web at www.fsa.usda.gov.
