I have fourteen pets; two mice, two dogs, one parrot, two parakeets, one sparrow (long story), one frog, three betta fish, one snake, and one marbled angel fish. [ Home Schooling ] Open Question : Why do people put so much confidence into the public school system?

Posted: 11 Sep 2011 02:47 PM PDT

I was watching "Waiting for Superman" a movie about the U.S. educational system. It follows kids who enter a school lottery to be able to go to schools in better districts. I'm wondering why we spend so much money, time, energy, and confidence into the public school system? Why are parents afraid to try alternatives? Instead of relying on a slim chance, I wonder why they don't take out their kids and home-school them? Nowadays we have online schools in addition. We have charter schools, private schools, etc. It seems trying to improve the public school system is a losing battle.

[ Books & Authors ] Open Question : Please critique my short "criticism" on Education?

Posted: 11 Sep 2011 02:47 PM PDT

Homework can equate to chains. Why do teachers give homework, anyway? It's just more papers for them to correct. How about, they DON'T give homework, that'll be less stressful for them. But teachers continue to demand our sweat and blood as tribute to the monster called Education. The classroom, I conclude, is where teachers suck our brains dry, while at the same time, the teachers load themselves with work that sucks them dry, too. All for the sake of the monster called Education. I imagine Education to be some kind of horrific beast, like the one in Revelation. But made of paper. Written in blood.

[ Singles & Dating ] Open Question : Do You Think That This Is "Slutty"?

Posted: 11 Sep 2011 02:46 PM PDT

I have a best friend who repeatedly keeps on calling me a "slag", although she is half joking when she says it. Personally I do not think I am a "slag" and I think that it's a term used to make women feel bad about wanting to have sex and enjoy it, because as long as you are acting responsibly then I don't see anything wrong with enjoying a healthy sex life. All I did was hook up with my fuck buddy a few times on nights out and then met a nice guy out last weekend who I planned on hooking up with last night. I don't think it's sluttish behaviour because I'm always responsible and what's wrong with two people deciding to hook up if they are attracted to each other and both willing? Her judgemental comments are started to hurt me a little, but I'm curious to what other people think as well.

[ Singles & Dating ] Open Question : Want to know if this guy likes me. 10 POINTS TO BEST ANSWER!!!?

Posted: 11 Sep 2011 02:46 PM PDT

Okay, so I'm in grade seven, and I'm always texting my friend Josh. So a few days ago my friend told me she thinks that Josh likes me. . . Whic after I thought about it could be acurate but idk. He texts me an awful lot (translation = he starts a conversation at least twice a day often more) and I remember that it was HIM asking ME for my number, not the other way around. He's not in any of my classes, so I don't usually see him. But there was one time that I had to go to his class and once he noticed be we smiled and waved and looked really excited . . . Lol But yeah. I asked him who he liked just last night and he said he like someone else, and even though he starts the conversations most of the time he is usually using one word responses. But he usually texts me right when he wakes up Also he tends to text me no matter what he's doing, including when playig Call of Duty, and I know from experience that guys put playig cod over most things including talking to people, lol. But I'm still not completely convinced thathe likes me, and how can I find out? I don't want to ask him if he likes me because I'd one die of embaressment if he said no, two die of embarrassment if he said yes, and three I don't need him to think that I like him, that wouldake thinks super awkward. Help.

Find (a) the magnitude and (b) direction of the resultant displacement. Express the direction as a positive angle with respect to due west.

[ Religion & Spirituality ] Open Question : Why was Vietnam such a fun war?

Posted: 11 Sep 2011 02:46 PM PDT

It was also a much more controversial and hollywood style war, including drug use, drinking, civilian massacres, hookers, fragging of sergeants and lieutenants(which means soldiers shooting/killing them), draftees, racial tensions, etc, etc. there were 10x the men on the ground as well. You had a great mix of America with; f__k ups, rich kids, poor kids, kids pissed off at the world, kids drafted against their own will, southerners, hippies, blacks, inner city white catholics and jews(irish, italians, polish and jews), california surfers, mexicans, junkies, ex cons/future cons, gang members, mentally ill, patriots, old World War 1 veterans as commanders, WW2 and Korean vets as sargents, etc, etc, etc.. BUT The bad part was; The Vietnamese were also known for their sick cruel tactics on enemy soldiers, setting traps(many soldiers came home without limbs), chemicals, torturing POWs to death, other crazy things. They could not tell the enemy from civilians. 60,000 US troops killed. 10,040 South Korean troops killed. 8,789 Australian troops killed. 5,510 Thai troops killed. 3,895 New Zealander troops killed. Vietnam had extreme guerilla jungle warfare in Viet-Cong, and a modern military in the NVA. There was a draft for not just the United States, but South Korea and Australia as well. The US relied heavily on the new South Korea(who knew Oriental, guerilla and jungle style warfare very well, also somewhat as a favor for after the Korean War) and Australia who were experienced and fought several jungle guerilla wars against Asian nations before the Vietnam War. 30% of the US army was draftees by 1968. a little over 5% of the Marines was draftees by 1968. The majority was still by far volunteers though. 20% of the Australian ground troops were drafted NOW, Iraq and Afghanistan have had less then 5,000 put together in the same amount of time. Yes every life is precious, but this conflict is no-where near Vietnam. In 1968 the US had a total number of 650,000 ground troops in Vietnam, with South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and Thailand also having theyre largest amount of ground troops that same year, the total ground force was well over a million. There is not nearly as much troops as this in Afghanistan or Iraq. But I knew a Vietnam Vet and he said "we had fun before guys got killed, shot and extreme PTSD" I mean if i had a choice of now or then, It would be then a lot more fun stuff before u die or cme back

[ Singles & Dating ] Open Question : Is it wrong for a 19 y/o to date an almost 17 y/o?

Posted: 11 Sep 2011 02:46 PM PDT

I'm 19 (sophomore in college) and this girl at my job (month away from 17/junior in high school) told a friend of mine at my job that I'm hot. He then said this to me while the both of them were sitting on a bench while on break. I was in the middle of cleaning something up and I was caught off guard with him saying it. She was giggling when he said that, I said thanks, and I jokingly said to him "no need to make things awkward". I then switch the topic and talk to another guy that was near them for a little then left to get back to work. I had suspected she liked me based off her checking me out when I'm near but it's in the open now. I know her brother who works with us (he's off at college right now though/I commute). We've known eachother since about 7th grade and when he was at my job for the summer we'd talk about sports, we were cool with eachother. I don't want her to think it's one sided because I think she's a pretty girl. I just don't have any dating experience. So should I get to know her and consider dating her or just leave it be and take it as a compliment? Should I FB friend her? We have talked a little and know eachother.

[ Friends ] Open Question : What did it mean? Help!?

Posted: 11 Sep 2011 02:46 PM PDT

I guess I sort of like him back but I'm not sure yet. There's this guy at my school and he always stares at me in classes and at break and look away and turns red when I notice that he's looking at me. We've known each other since 5th grade and we're now in 10th grade but we've never had a real conversation. I catch him in French looking at me with a glazed over look at looking at me when I talk and smiling. Someone during a discussion about starting families and falling in love and someone shouted out '******* has a girlfriend' and I know for a fact that he doesn't. And the other day I was doing a presentation in class and after I finished I passed the paper around. When it got to them, they held it and didn't continue passing it and just like laughed about it but not at it. What did it mean?
