TOO HOT TO HANDLE

Did you lose any livestock due to the extreme heat of the last week?  We may be able to help.

Livestock producers who experience livestock death as a result of an eligible adverse weather event may qualify for assistance through the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) administered by the Farm Service Agency (FSA).

LIP provides monetary assistance to eligible livestock owners and livestock contract growers, for eligible livestock deaths in excess of normal mortality that occurred as a direct result of an eligible adverse weather event, including the extreme heat recently occurring in several areas of South Dakota.

For livestock deaths occurring during the 2011 calendar year, livestock producers must file a notice of loss and application for payment with FSA within 30 calendar days of when the loss of livestock is apparent.

Contact the Faulk County Farm Service Agency office for additional information or to file an application for the LIP program.
