[ Geography ] Open Question : Why do some streets not have a descriptor after the name?

I have noticed that sometimes streets don't have a descriptor after the name but instead have a "the" in front. Does anyone know how this started? Often when I see one the streets around it don't follow the same pattern but are more "normal". For an example, this is what prompted me to ask the question when I saw the address for Emmanuel College as: 400 The Fenway Boston, MA 02115 here: http://www.emmanuel.edu/Tools_Navigation/Contact_Us.html But like I said I've seen this other times as well where it's "The Fenway" and it's always seemed curious to me as most streets would be Fenway Lane, Avenue, Boulevard, Circle or even Street.

Relationships have broken down with my family so i am completely miserable living here, I have bad memories in this town & the majority of my friends will soon be leaving to go to university. I think i'm superior to most humans, i feel it also. I feel like i'm not human, I don't understand other humans. I don't understand why humans get into relationships and get themselves in stupid situations. I don't understand why people constantly do good things which disadvantage themselves. I dont understand why people cry when they break up with people/ people die; C'est la vie. I don't get why people cry when they see the News about some natural disaster, who seriously gives a damn? Sucks for them sure, but i don't care enough to "feel their pain". I'm a pathological liar, i've become to realize this. I lie to get people to pity me and also i enjoy making people believe them. I see my friends as merely dolls or something, something i can test new lying strategies too. I love creating complex lies and faking illnesses, it's especially sweet when people believe in it. I like creating unnecessary drama as well, breaking people up is my favorite. I love how i can influence people i don't even know. I broke up my mum and her boyfriend, it was an immense feeling of power. Ok, thought i'd add some more, since last time i asked i got called a troll. I'm not a troll, i guess im a bit screwed up. Never had parents (my dads in prison and my mums in a loony bin), and i was bullied a lot at school, so blame them; not me. I don't see how i'm being evil, it is other people's fault for believing me and associating with me. I don't force 'em. I can spot a lie a mile away, they should educate themselves to do the same. Oh and also, I'm not an attention seeker, attention is the last thing i want. Do i want help? If someone can convince me why i need help, then maybe. But i don't think scraping away my personality and making me a moronic sheep like everyoen else is going to help me. AM i delusional? I personally think they are jealous, but i'll be open minded and ask you guys.

The only globe lights i have found in Canada so far only come in 18ft lengths. I am going to have a large rectangular area from which I want to hang them (four posts bordering my tables). I need about 30-40 ft per side. The problem is i can only connect 3 of these 18ft strands together, but i am going to need 7. What could i do? this is going to be outside i don't really want 3 massive extension chords. Anyone have any ideas? is it worth buying them or should i continue looking for some that come in longer lengths?

my neighbor is basically a bitch that has her nose up everything. we took our old cruddy wooden fence down and replaced it with a white fence which looks ten times better and it is about a few inches higher than the town allows. ( before we replaced the fence with our new one, my fence and her fence was exactly the same. she even got pissed off when we had it painted and a few drops fell over onto her side and she was even taking pictures of it.) didn't know about this because we didn't know we needed a permit to replace a fence that was already there.

I'm playing this piece in my recital next week, but haven't managed to find out which birds he portrays within the music, i reckon there's a cuckoo, but not sure about any others. i know in the christmas carol, it's supposed to be 4 colly birds, as in 4 blackbirds, but i'm not sure if it's the same for Bennett's piece.

it was the only place ever mentioned (and if you look up the name it was not that of the devil, but of a fallen babylonian king....also lucifer is a latin word for the bearer of light amd latin was not a spoken language when the word was mentioned in Isaiah)....did they figure out lucifer is not the devil?

I have been dating a man for almost 2 years. In the beginning, as with every new relationship, things were perfect and we worked through any differences promptly and patiently with mutual respect for one another's concerns. He's always been a sweet, funny, flirty guy and I've always been very secure in our relationship's standing. He is 39 years old (13 years my senior) and has 4 children from 2 different women. He has a reputation of a big time partier and a womanizer. He's been through alcoholic rehab and anger management courses as a contingency of his custody rights after his divorce in 2007 (3 years before I met him). In the time that I was getting to know him, he was like a knight in shining white armor, honestly confronting his past mistakes and trying to turn his life around. This had nothing to do with me, he just felt that he wasn't getting any younger and had little to show for his days of partying. We started out just friends and became close over time and are still together today. I never judged his past and believed his efforts at bettering himself to be genuine. All in all, the man has a good heart and a bad history. So here's the thing. About a year ago, he became very ill. Basically, his old habits caught up with him. In that period, he became very stressed and kept a headache. This is when I learned that when he doesn't feel well, he gets mean. Not violent or abusive, just short tempered and bitter. Expeceted, who wouldn't be grumpy? But I was the only one bearing the brunt of this. We became distant and easily angered with one another. I received anonymous texts that he was interested in someone else and to check his phone for a certain name (which I have withheld). Against all my better judgement, I looked. I found no evidence of this mentioned female, which was a relief, however, I did find where he was engaging in some rather inappropriate discussion with a female coworker. I felt horribly guilty and confessed what I had done...and what I had seen. We fought, broke up, continued to fight as singles for about 2 weeks, then forgave one another and got back together. This pattern became familiar in a series of arguments and breakups, in which he was sick, we became distant, I received anonymous messages, found evidence of inappropriate conversations, arguments, break up, wait a little while, get back together. The last time, he had invited me over, and managed to send a girl a photo of himself bare chested in the bathroom (not classy or candid) while I was driving over to his house. This had been the last straw for me, as I couldn't continue to be disrepected and live with the constant nagging of not trusting him. After a month, we talked. He explained with the stress of his illness that he was only fishing for compliments from the girl and had no interest in anything other than a confidence boost. He said he would never cheat on me, and that he had disrespected me, but that he knew that I would never trust him again. After some time, we wound up back together again. No one knew we were dating, so oddly, no more anonymous texts about women. I spent all my time with him and taking care of him, and never once thought about looking at his phone. But he would take it everywhere with him and sleep with it in his pocket and keep it on silent. I asked him about this, and he said he didn't want his privacy invaded this time. After about a month, he started leaving it out when he slept and putting it back on ring. And NO, I have not looked. It makes me feel MORE secure knowing that he trusts me in that way again. Things had finally stabilized in our home and I was happy. ... Ok...so get to the point? OK. He is sick again...potentially VERY sick. And he has slipped back into ignoring me, being crass and mean to me, taking out his frustration on me, and never feeling any genuine remorse for it...just self pity and an increased anger that I am not more sensitive to his plight. In the past our relationship couldn't take the strain, and we found misplaced outlets to express that. I know he loves me, but how on earth can I deal with this man? Is he only this way because he is vulnerable in front of me and feels threatened? Is it that he is only mean to me in order to vent his frustrations and he believes that I will always forgive him? I have tried many times to discuss this calmly, but when he gets like this, he becomes so diluted in self pity that he cannot see where he is hurting my feelings...and thinks that I am being selfish for not understanding him. No ultimatums, no drama, no break ups. Please, this isn't a question about "does he love me?" and "is he cheating?"...it's this: Men...please tell me...if you were so sick that it affected your personality...what should your loved ones do to help

I have this (very slightly!) raised mole on my arm near my inner elbow. It's nickel sized and it prevents me from wearing short sleeves. Getting it removed is not an option, and summer is coming up. I'm tired of having to wear long sleeves. Please don't tell me to just leave it alone, because I've heard that too many times. Ever since I was little I've been extremely self conscience about it. I can't conceal it with just plain concealer, because it's too dark. I've tried everything. Even Iodine, putting band aids over it, even trying to scratch it off. Please help. Is there any type of temporary putty or something I can put over it then put makeup over that?

I'm 15 years old my life is basically in tatters, I have a childrens panel coming up about my relationship with my "mum" is difficult to say the least.. She is constantly coming up to me and shouting and swearing at me calling me everything under the sun.. In march I told my teacher everything about what's going on at home and when I was younger(I was abused my 2 people but she only know of the 1 person) I struggle to deal with life so I drink alcohol regualy and have came to school drunk 2 times. I also overdosed in march on my painkillers diclofenac 75mg I took 13 tablets, I'm on methotrexate for my arthritis, my mum is also possible getting charged because she slapped me infront of 3 friends and I have been interviewed by the police. I don't want to be taken away I just want everything to be sorted out.. She difficult and won't let social work intervien. I'm very fed up with this all and to be honest I give up with everything... So my question is what would happen is I had 85mg of methotrexate..? And I'm 16 stone x

Someone told me to print an estimate for various things included Orange Iris They had several of the plants growing for a long time in their lawn and a neighbor destroyed all the flowers and some of the landscape. The problem I'm having is for the Orange Iris, I never buy/plant flowers, she wants an estimate of what it would cost to replant each as grown or bare root. Where can I find this online? I am 33-year old college student. Recently, I have discovered that someone has been posting too many "likes" on my fiancée's facebook page as far back as almost two years ago. This person, who is MILDLY mentally handicapped, has continued to "LIKE" almost everything my fiancée does, up to this day, and although I know its okay to "like" something once in awhile, this person has repeatedly "like" every single posting that my fiancée puts, even though my fiancée has assured me that this person is harmless. I cannot see how "liking" everything is harmless, I find it really annoying and really harassing. I have met this mildly mentally handicapped person, (he's about in his mid-20s) and his family. The parents seem really nice, but, I have repeatedly tried to tell him that to stop "LIKING" everything, (even at times in a forceful, verbal manner) that my fiancée puts on her wall and he just doesn't listen. I have talked to the parents and family, and they don't seem to care. I have told my fiancée how I felt about this but nothing has been done. Any suggestions on how to go forward with this situation? Or any legal recourse? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

I'm interviewing tomorrow to be a bookseller at Books-A-Million. My responsibilities will include stocking shelves, cashiering, trying to sell discount cards to shoppers, etc. Apart from "get there early" and "dress like you want the job", does anyone have any good advice? The one I bought yesterday is messed up and need to exchange it but the only store that has one in stock is kinda far from my house.
