[ Mental Health ] Open Question : Can anyone who's been on Paxil tell me what your experience was?

Posted: 18 Jul 2011 09:23 PM PDT

I've been in therapy for several months for Post Traumatic Stress, Social Anxiety, and Depression. I resisted the idea of medication for a long time, but have finally decided to give it a shot as I'm having trouble functioning. I'm a 115 lb, 19-year-old female and was put on 10mg of Paxil once a day. I'm of course very nervous about starting a new medication, and read all the literature my doctor gave me on it. Can anyone tell me what I can expect? Side effects? How long before you felt a difference? How high of a dose you needed? Thanks in advance!

[ Singles & Dating ] Open Question : I'm still not over him!?

Posted: 18 Jul 2011 09:23 PM PDT

So this happened last year. There was a point where I knew I was over him..I stopped thinking about him and I stopped wanting him. But today I called him and hung up just to hear his voice. Then I got these crazy butterflies just hearing his voice. I just got back like all the feelings and it sucks. I'm also dating(not official) someone else but I'm not over my ex. I just feel so sad because it's like when will I ever heal?? When will I just let go of him. This can't be normal or healthy..I would do anything to hear is voice again. I'm just so lost how to get over him:/? I mean it's been a year I need to let go! Reason for breaking up: He said it wasn't the right time for us..too much stuff was going on. But he said we would eventually be together in the future..I just didn't want to wait. A lot more complicated stuff

[ Other - Cultures & Groups ] Open Question : What is it with Hispanic men?

Posted: 18 Jul 2011 09:23 PM PDT

DISCLAIMER: I don't mean to generalize ALL hispanic men, these are just the ones I've encountered. Also, names have been changed to protect my job. So, I'm a 17 year old white girl. I'm talkin' nothern Europe descent, porcelain, snow WHITE. It just so happens that I speak Spanish very well, which helped me get a job at a restaurant, and that's where my troubles began. There's one guy, we'll call him Juan*. I can't really tell how old he is, but he's definitely older than me, over 25 at least, and he's from either Chile or Colombia, didn't really pay attention, and he doesn't speak English. Anyways, some of the things he says to me are pretty wierd and downright inappropriate. He's always telling me I'm beautiful or sexy. ick. He told me my children would be beautiful, he's asked me if I'm a virgin, he asks me what kind of alcohol I like, If i have a boyfriend, and so on. My first day on the job, he thought I was lost and looking for work at Twin Peaks (tittie bar), guess we know where his eyes were. I haven't done ANYTHING to lead him on, I'm very blunt with him, I'm not mean, though. I'd say neutral. Then there's Pedro*, who's my age and also not from the US. The first shift I worked with him, he told me I was beautiful about 17 million times. The second shift, he kissed me on the cheek and asked me out. I haven't worked or heard from him since then. My point is, is there something I'm missing? Some part of hispanic culture that makes it ok to treat girls my age like this? NO guy I've ever known has ever talked to me like these do. On the other hand, I haven't spent much time with people who are from latin america. Is it just a cultural thing? What are hispanic girls my age doing that would make Juan* question my virginity and ask what kind of liqour I like? I'm not hispanic AT ALL. I'm German, French, English, Scotch-Irish, Swiss, and so on...I'm guessing Anglo culture is different than Latin or Hispanic. I just don't get it. Thanks :)

[ Grade-Schooler ] Open Question : Why do other parents get so defensive? Im proud of my child just like you are, why so mean?

Posted: 18 Jul 2011 09:23 PM PDT

When parents get together they tend to chat about what their kids are up to, how they are going at school, and what they are proud of them doing. 'james is doing well, he is playing little league and he got a sticker from his art teacher' 'Sarah is loving art she painted a big butterfly and had her teacher write 'I love you mummy' then me "My daughter loves school too! Its great they are all settling in. She likes reading the most, Charlie the chocolate factory is her favourite book at the moment." Then the looks! and sometimes some really mean comments! I am not trying to say my child is better than yours but Im not going to lie and say that she is reading 'the cat on the mat' because she is not! Shouldn't I be able to be proud of my childs achievements? I find myself compensating by saying things like 'oh she is not ahead in maths or anything else really, just reading' because I can see the other parents getting snarky at me. To clarify, our kids are starting primary school this year, I am in Australia so they have been there around 6 months, my daughters reading level is testing atleast 2 years above her age group. This is not because I push her or hot-housed her or whatever, she has always loved books and she started reading early and easily she enjoys school and generally does well. Why are other parents so nasty about kids that are doing extra well? I am sure that their children have things that they are good at and I am equally sure that if their child was good at something they would feel proud and want to share it.

[ Corporations ] Open Question : Ethics Question: What if my former boss (at same current company) told me the division I'm in, was being sold?

Posted: 18 Jul 2011 09:23 PM PDT

I am rather low-level (only two years out of school), and this information is not known yet amongst my co-workers (only the President of our Division I believe knows). Basically, the division I work in is being sold, and some people will be let go as a result. Am I supposed to just keep this information quiet until a formal announcement is made, or am I supposed to inform others (I've developed relationships with a lot of these people)? Not sure what the proper "ethics" are in this type of situation.

[ Friends ] Open Question : What should I do about this annoying b*tch?

Posted: 18 Jul 2011 09:23 PM PDT

We go to school together and we're in the same class. She(I'll call her Ann) seemed really nice and quiet 1st semester but was getting more and more talkative. There was this other girl in our class(let's call her, Emma) who seemed to be rude/mean to Ann for no reason. 2nd semester, we all had gym together along with some of my other friends. Emma seemed to be rude to Ann for no reason. So my friend(not Ann) and I met her after Gym class and asked her why she was being so rude to Ann. She just answered "because I don't like her." Now the day after during Gym class, Ann was being really rude and mean to me. I had no idea why. Then, after class, she asked me why i was talking behind her back and I was angry. So I ignored her. So after this incident, she keeps on being annoying and rude to me. I was alright with it for a week and we become friends who kinda made fun of each other but we soon became enemies because she got too annoying. I hate her now. What should I do to stop her from annoying me next year?

[ Mathematics ] Open Question : what's the antiderivative of 2sinx- sin2x?

[ Religion & Spirituality ] Open Question : What about the 4th commandment? (Answering)?

Posted: 18 Jul 2011 09:23 PM PDT

Mark 2:27 "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." The Sabbath was not just for the Jews. A sin is a sin, If you cut a apple in half its still an apple. All sins are considerd the same under God. Except blasphemy. Jesus was crucified on the Friday, yes? And even thought Christ died the people still had to honor Gods sabbath as Luke says... Luke 23:50-56 "50 And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counseller; and he was a good man, and a just: 51 (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God. 52 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. 53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid. 54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on. 55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid. 56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment." Luke 24:1 "Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them." So just as the people honored the sabbath so did Jesus in his death. He honored the Sabbath SOOO much that he wouldn't even rise on the Sabbath day. Hence the reason he rose on the first day of the week. Yes, Jesus is our Sabbath but God set aside a certain day that we should worship him. Proverbs 3:5 "Lean not to thine own understanding." The new covenant is not a change in Gods law but its a change how we repent unto God. in the old covenant they use to kill animals as burnt offerings. We no longer have to do that because Christ died for us on the cross. That is the new covenant!! Matthew 5:17-18 "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."
