EIA has released an analysis of home Air-Conditioning trends and usage patterns. The report is part of a series of data tables and briefs resulting
from the 2009 Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS).
EIA has conducted the RECS since 1978 to provide data on home energy characteristics, end uses of energy, and
expenses for the four Census Regions and nine Divisions. A threefold increase in the number of households included
in the 2009 RECS offers more accuracy and coverage for understanding energy usage for all estimated States,
Regions and Divisions.
The RECS was expanded for 2009, allowing for more precise estimates of key statistics and detailed data for 16 states. 2009 RECS Consumption
and Expenditures data will be released in early 2012.
