Re: [CardioTrainer Users] Does the CT use the Polar to determine calories burned AT ALL?

Hi Mo – You're completely right; right now, the heart rate monitor isn't used to calculate calorie burn. The only reason this wasn't included is because we wanted to release the heart rate monitor as soon as possible, and weren't able to include this in the original version.

We know this is a really popular feature among users, so just bear with us until we're able to implement it. We've got the feature request here: http://code.google.com/p/worksmart/issues/detail?id=238.

Thank you!

Hi All,

From what I've read, everyone says that using a heart rate monitor is
the best was to determine calories burned. I just started using the
Polar HRM linked to the CardioTrainer app through Bluetooth. I thought
that the HRM would make my calories burned more accurate. However,
after doing 30 minutes on a stationary bike (where the only
personalized input is the heart rate - no GPS feeding the app info on
distance and speed, etc.) last night and tonight, I had burned exactly
the same amount of calories. Out of curiosity, I told the app I was
doing it again, but I sat still on the couch for half an hour. The
calories said the exact same number while I was resting (about 75
beats/min) as when I was on the bike (about 125 beats/min). Seems to
me that CardioTrainer was just using a standard estimate based on my
weight and the type of exercise the way that that MFP would do. If so,
why did I just spend $80 for an item that makes a pretty chart full of
data that in no way factors into my final figures? Am I missing some
benefit to this? Was I just uninformed before I made the purchase?
Thanks!
