USDA Reminds Producers of Application Deadlines for Noninsurable Crop Disaster (NAP) Coverage
(Jackson, Miss.), - Aug. 4, 2011 - USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Michael R. Sullivan urges producers who want to purchase coverage through the Noninsurable Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) to do so before the application closing date for the crop to be covered.
NAP provides financial assistance to eligible producers when a natural disaster causes a catastrophic loss of yield or prevented planting of a covered crop.
The table below provides the application closing dates for NAP crops offered in Mississippi, although not all crops are eligible in all counties:

| 2/1/2012 | Beans, Cantaloupe, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Honeydew Melon, Lettuce, Pecans, Peppers, Radishes, Squash, Tomatoes, Turnips, Watermelons |
| 2/29/2010 | Corn, Cotton, Millet, Okra, Peanuts, Peas, Pumpkins, Rice, Sorghum, Soybeans, Sudex, Sugarcane, Sweet Potatoes |
In order to meet eligibility requirements for NAP, crops must be commercially-produced agricultural commodity crops for which catastrophic risk protection level of crop insurance is not available. If the Risk Management Agency (RMA) offers coverage for a crop in the county, then NAP coverage is not available for that crop.
In the event of a natural disaster, NAP covers the amount of loss greater than 50 percent of expected production based on the approved yield and reported acreage.
Eligible producers can apply for coverage using form CCC-471, Application for Coverage. Producers must file the application and pay the service fee on or before the application closing date for the crop to be covered. The service fee is the lesser of $250 per crop or $750 per producer per administrative county, not to exceed a total of $1,875 for a producer with farming interests in multiple counties.
